HERSHEY, PA (January 5, 2016) – The Elegance at Hershey is pleased to announce the appointments of Bill Rothermel and Phil Fleck to our Board of Directors. Elegance Executive Director states, “Bill and Phil are great additions to our Board. They will lend unique perspectives to the organization as successful businessmen, entrepreneurs, auto restorers, collectors and concours judges. We are privileged to have them join us.”
About Bill Rothermel
Bill has had a lifelong interest in cars, both small and large. According to family accounts, while a toddler in his stroller he would amaze an audience with his ability to identify the make and model of passing automobiles! An automotive historian and avid collector of miniature automobiles and automobilia, Bill’s interests range from the cars of the brass and classic eras to muscle cars, post-war American cars, European sports cars and automobiles of all kinds.
Bill is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Rolls-Royce Foundation in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania; and the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles in Boyertown, Pennsylvania. He is the 2012 recipient of the Robert Shaffner Award recognizing his contributions to the Rolls-Royce Foundation. He currently serves as the Master of Ceremonies of the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance in Boca Raton, Florida; the Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance in Pinehurst, North Carolina; the 100 Motorcars of Radnor Hunt in Malvern, Pennsylvania; the St. Michaels Concours d’Elegance, St. Michaels, Maryland; The Elegance, Hershey, Pennsylvania; the Monmouth County Concours d’Elegance in Monmouth, New Jersey; the Edison Concours d’Elegance in West Orange, New Jersey; and the Winter Park Concours in Winter Park, Florida. Bill served most recently as a Judge at the Winter Park Concours; Classic Sports Sunday in Palm Beach, Florida; the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance in Greenwich, Connecticut; and the Concours of the Americas at St. Johns in Plymouth, Michigan. In recent years, he has officiated as Master of Ceremonies at the York Concours d’Elegance, the Concours d’Elegance of the Eastern United States, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Vehicles, Cars Under the Stars, the Utah Concours d’Elegance, the Pacific Northwest Concours d’Elegance, the Milwaukee Masterpiece and the Concours d’Elegance at Stan Hywet Hall.
As a freelance writer, Bill’s work has been featured in national, international, club and concours publications such as Antique Automobile, Automobile Quarterly, Car Collector, The Flying Lady, Old Cars Weekly, Sports Car Market, The Classic Car and Total 911 Magazine, among others. He regularly serves as a catalog writer for RM Sotheby’s and Auctions America, and is a contributor to RM’s in-house magazine Shift. He is a contributing author to the book AACA 75 – A Shared Legacy 1935-2010, A History – A Vision. Most recently, Bill authored the narrative for Auto/Photo – American Car Culture in Photography exhibit at the Hunan Provincial Museum in China in conjunction with noted automotive photographer Michael Furman.
Bill is a 1980 graduate of Shippensburg University and is an active community volunteer, serving on the Boards of several non-profit organizations within Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He is an Associate Broker with RE/MAX Associates of Lancaster where he is a recipient of the RE/MAX Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement Awards and is a 15-time Platinum Club member.
About Phil Fleck
Phil is a retired medical device company executive and is currently a Director of Norwich Ventures, a venture capital firm focusing on early stage Medtech companies. He has had a lifetime passion for classic cars and is a collector of post-war European sports cars including Mercedes, Jaguar, Porsche and MG vehicles. Actively involved with his family business, Classic Era Motors, a restoration shop in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, Phil is also a board member and Collections Chairman of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles in Boyertown, Pennsylvania.
Phil has participated and judged in many Concours events, including The Elegance at Hershey, St. Michaels, Boca Raton, Louisville, Pinehurst, Cobble Beach and the Eastern United States Concours (Concours Cabinet and Selection Committee).
